Confused about what your child's 4-H age is? No worries!

  • A 4-H Program year is from September 1 - August 31; therefore the 22-23 Program year is from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023.
  • 4-H Age is based upon the age of the youth AS OF JANUARY 1st  OF THE PROGRAM YEAR; therefore, the age your child is as of January 1st, 2023 is what your child's current 4-H age is for the 22-23 program year.
  • 4-H Age vs Cloverbud:
    • Most 4-H programming is for 4-H age youth ages 9-18 as of January 1st
    • Cloverbuds are for youth who are ages 5-8 as of January 1st
  • Why is it important to know your child's 4-H age?
    • There are many programs that have an age requirement in order to be eligible to participate/compete, etc. These are determined at the State & National levels and are beyond the county's control.  We don't want to misguide you and have you believe your child is old enough to participate in a program, then learn they are not eligible!
    • For safety reasons: specific programs like (shooting sports, large animal livestock, horse, & others) are STRICTLY prohibited for cloverbud participation.  A youth must be 4-H age 9-18 in order to participate in those programs.
  • Refer to the charts below to help you determine what your child's 4-H age is for the 22-23 program year.
