Pulaski County 4-H Country Ham Project Club Meeting Dates:
- Jan. 12 (orientation), Jan. 15 (Ham Curing Day) Feb. 9, March 11, April 12, May 10, May 20, July 12, (August 9- this will be Sales, Marketing, & Communications Workshop)
- This will be how 4-H youth get their education hours. Mark these dates on your calendars!
- Field trips may be offered as well!
Important Dates:
- Ham Curing Day: January 15, 2024 (MLK Day)
- Last year this date changed due to the number of hams needing to be transported. Updates will be given if there are changes.
- County Communications Contest: March 28, 2024 ( required for those planning to sell their ham at Show & Sale)
- Ham Washing Day: August 13, 2024
- Kentucky State Fair Ham Day: August 15, 2024
Kentucky State Fair & Speech Requirement
- 4-H Youth will be required to give a speech at the KSF on August 15, 2024
- Please hold this date and be prepared to spend the entire day at the KSF.

Youth are required to give a 3-5 minute presentation at the Kentucky State Fair on August 15, 2024.
Giving a 3-5-minute presentation at KY State Fair on the required topic:
Junior (Born 2014-2010) How to cook and store a country ham - Discuss the best ways to store your country ham after the fair and the various ways to cook a country ham.
Senior (Born 2005-2009) How to market and sell Country Hams. (visual aids are optional, no digital/electronic devices)
Please note – ALL SENIOR PRESENTATIONS MUST BE AT LEAST 2 MINUTES LONG OR THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND HAMS FORFEITED.
Show & Sale Country Ham Auction Participation
In order to be eligible to sell a ham at Show & Sale in September, 4-H youth will need to complete the following additional requirements:
- Participate in the Pulaski County 4-H Communications Contest on March 28, 2024
- Attend the "Sales, Marketing & Communications Workshop" on August 9, 2024
- Create a display board showcasing your experience with the project
