The Children's Garden at the Pulaski County Public Library was a great community undertaking led by two Lake Cumberland Extension Master Gardeners, Marvin Kinch and Curt Wallace.

It was established in 2008. During 2020-22, the garden is undergoing a transformation led by Extension Master Gardeners.

The garden will most certainly remain a Children's Garden, but it will also be a teenager garden and an adult garden.

The plants in the garden are different than the original plantings. The new garden will feature only Kentucky native plants, will have educational signage describing the ecological benefits of native plants, and will have interactive signs so that visitors, young and old alike, can learn about Kentucky natives and appreciate their place in the entire ecosystem and food chain.

Gardens are never static. Gardens are never done. Gardens require maintenance and upkeep to keep them looking great. Please consider donating to the garden. It is a bright, cheery spot in downtown Somerset where children and adults alike can relax, sit under a tree and read a book, listen to the waterfall, or discover lots of interesting insects.

Please consider a donation to the Lake Cumberland Master Gardener Association, make sure your contribution is designated for the garden. Send donations to PO Box 720, Somerset KY 42502-0720.
